5 Moving Truck Accessories You Need for a Smooth Move
All truck rental services offer accessories designed to help you move your items easier, safer, and efficiently. But many do-it-yourself movers aren’t aware that these items are even available.
Moving Truck Accessories
Whether to make the task of packing safer and easier or for convenience’s sake, moving truck accessories play an important and valuable role in most successful moves.
By using the proper moving supplies and tools, you’ll enjoy a more comfortable move and one with less stress, bodily risk, and potential for damage.
While these moving truck accessories usually aren’t included in most truck rental quotes, their added cost may be well worth it if you find yourself in the position where you need them.
1. Hand trucks
One of the greatest challenges of a do-it-yourself move is moving heavy appliances and furniture—or even just very heavy boxes.
Having a hand truck capable of moving these cumbersome items is essential.
Not only will you save your back, but you’ll also be able to save time otherwise spent navigating these heavy items out of the house and into the truck.
2. Furniture pads
When moving an entire house worth of stuff, there’s sure to be some jostling in the back of the truck. In worst-case scenarios, your possessions will become damaged or break due to smashing around in the truck.
Heavy-duty furniture pads are designed to keep your furniture and other delicate items safe, protected, and secure. If you place these pads over and between your items, they’ll be safer from dings, dents, and scratches.
3. Packing supplies
Boxes, tape, padlocks and other packing supplies are available at most truck rental agencies.
While these items may cost more when purchasing them from a truck rental service, sometimes the convenience is worth the extra cost.
For example, your old moldy boxes from the last move four years ago probably aren’t the best for this move; same with the tape, which probably has lost its adhesive power.
4. Car dolly
A car dolly is a type of trailer specifically used for towing front-wheel-drive vehicles.
With a car dolly, your car’s front wheels are lifted off of the pavement and the car is towed with only the rear wheels on the ground.
Most truck rentals 16-feet and larger can accommodate a car dolly.
5. Car carrier
A car carrier is a trailer offered by truck rental agencies that is designed for all vehicles but most commonly used to transport four-wheel or all-wheel-drive vehicles.
With this type of trailer, your vehicle’s wheels are completely off the ground and on the trailer. It can be accommodated by most moving trucks sized 16-feet or larger.
Keep in mind these accessories are added-cost items but always keep an eye out for promotions, coupons, and specials—and you might be able to get one or more of them for free.
If not, you can always try negotiating with the moving truck rental agency to see if they can give you some complimentary accessories.
