Need to move your existing gym to a new home?
Moving a home gym to a new home isn’t easy. Not only is the equipment heavy and difficult to take apart, but it’s also a challenge to pack given the weight and shape of many items. Here are a few tips for moving your existing gym equipment and accessories to a new home.
- Sanitize your items before and after the move. Gym equipment tends to be a petri dish of bacteria and germs. Be sure to bring sanitizing wipes to thoroughly clean all parts of the gym before you move and after you move.
- Focus on small, sturdy boxes and/or small plastic bins for carrying heavy weights and dumbbells. Do not overpack a box with heavy weights. Otherwise, you’ll end up with broken boxes and possibly a broken toe as well.
- Surround heavy weights with cushioning, such as a towel or packing paper. This will prevent items from shifting while on the moving truck.
- Have professional movers move large gym equipment. If you have to move it yourself, rent a dolly to help with loading and unloading. Place moving blankets on top of the equipment and secure the items in the truck with straps, so that they don’t shift. Lifting heavy equipment is dangerous and can be devastating for your back. Be sure to bend your knees when lifting. It’s also a good idea to have a friend help you with the move.
