7 Countries That Pay You to Move There
Want to relocate to another country and start a new life? Several countries will pay you to move there. Certain restrictions apply, and not all of the programs provide upfront cash. Some offer funds to launch your business, free land or a free house. But if you’re looking for an adventure, these countries can help make an overseas move happen.
Chile
How It Works: Entrepreneurs over 18 can apply to one of Startup Chile’s three programs: Build, Ignite and Growth. The 4-month Build program helps entrepreneurs launch their business in Chile. The program provides approximately $14,000 USD in equity-free funding and a 1-year resident visa. Coworking space and access to mentors and investors are also available.
Ignite, also a 4-month program, takes businesses to the next level with roughly $30,000 USD. Finally, the Growth program for more mature technology startups offers approximately $80,000 USD.
Spain
Italy
Italy is experiencing many of the same issues Spain is but even more dramatically. According to World Population Review, the country’s birthrate is the lowest it has ever been since its unification in the mid-1800s. Additionally, many of its young people leave the country to find jobs elsewhere. Not surprisingly, many smaller towns and villages struggle to survive. They are willing to pay to reverse their dwindling populations. While some offer cash to relocate to their communities, others will essentially give you a free home. Here are a couple of examples: Candela: This southeastern Italy village offers young people approximately $950 USD and young couples $1,400 USD to relocate there. Families fare even better. A family of three will receive up to $2,100 USD. A family of four or more can get $2,300 USD. Benefits may also include tax credits for waste disposal, certain bills and nursery care. To take advantage, you must rent a house in Candela and have a job paying $8,800 USD per year. Santo Stefano di Sessanio: More than a third of this southern Italy’s medieval village’s residents are over the age of 65. To attract a younger demographic, the local council will pay entrepreneurs up to $52,022 USD to relocate there, including roughly $23,000 to start a business. You must be between the ages of 18 and 40 to apply for the program, live in Santo Stefano for at least five years and operate a business there.
