Here Are 2023’s Best Small Cities in America
Whether you’re tired of dealing with big city problems (think: crowded subway trains and standstill traffic) or simply ready to leave your tiny town behind, moving to a small and manageable urban setting may be the right call for you. As many small city residents will tell you, living in a mid-size town often comes with its fair share of perks including a clean environment, low crime rates, affordable neighborhoods and friendly communities – all while maintaining an urban, cosmopolitan feel that so many crave.
Not sure which small city is for you? Fortunately, WalletHub recently compiled their list of 2023’s best small cities in America. The personal finance website “compared more than 1,200 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 based on 40 key indicators of livability.” These indicators included housing costs, restaurants per capita, school quality, crime rates, coffee shops per capita, average weekly work hours, income growth and more.
Out of all the cities included in this study, only 19 landed in the 99 th percentile, representing the top one percent of small cities in the country. Six of the one percenters were located in Massachusetts, two in Indiana and two in Tennessee. Here’s a closer look at the top 19 small cities in America.
