If You’re Moving to Florida from Another State

To get a Florida driver’s license as a formerly out-of-state resident you’ll have to go to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) office in person to apply. Unfortunately you can’t do a Florida DMV change of address online or over the phone, but you can make an appointment online so that you don’t have to wait once you get to the office.

You will need to bring along the following documentation:

    • Proof of identity (accepted documentation includes your birth certificate, valid U.S. passport or passport card, Certificate of Citizenship, Certificate of Naturalization, or Consular Report of Birth Abroad)
    • Proof of social security (accepted documentation includes your social security card, a W-2 form, or pay check or stub)
    • Proof of residential address (two different documents with proof of address are required)

    Is there a fee?

          To change your address for your vehicle’s registration, you will need:

            • Your Florida driver’s license number
            • Your license plate number or vehicle identification number (VIN)
            • Your date of birth
            • The last four digits of your social security number

            If you’d rather make the change in person, go to your local FLHSMV office. You will need to bring proof of U.S. citizenship and proof of Florida residency. The fee is $2.50 to update the address on your vehicle registration in person.

            If You’re Moving From Florida to Another State

            Nope. Once you successfully obtain a new driver’s license in the state you’ve moved to your Florida driver’s license will be automatically canceled.
