The Best Cities for Veterans to Move to in the U.S.
Are you a veteran considering a move to a new city? Then you’re in luck. Veterans United Home Loans, a leading VA purchase lender, recently released its comprehensive list of 2023’s most veteran-friendly cities in America.
To find the “best” cities, researchers took what returning service members considered the “most important factors” into consideration when analyzing and assessing 100 of the most populous U.S. cities. According to the Veterans United Home Loans’ report, these factors fell under three main umbrella categories: overall military culture, economic wellness and livability. The company then evaluated each city based on 18 different variables including: veteran unemployment rate, percentage of monthly income spent on monthly mortgage payments, veteran population as a proportion of total population, cost of living compared to national average, job growth percentage as of 2015, educational attainment, proximity of military bases, and GreatSchools ratings – among several other factors.
Findings
According to the data, Texas is the place to be for veterans. The study showed that four of the top 10 cities happened to be situated in The Lone Star State. Also worth noting, the East Coast appears to be a great place for veterans as well, with five of the top 10 cities for veterans located in North Carolina, Virginia and Florida.
