These 10 States Enjoy the Shortest Work Commutes, According to U.S. News
It’s no secret that a long work commute can wreak havoc on your health and your productivity. In fact, studies have shown that those who endure long commute times are more likely to suffer mental health issues, financial woes and stress, according to Business Insider. The article also points out that those who benefit from a short commute to and from work “gain an additional seven days’ worth of productive time each year.”
Thankfully, there are places in America where commuting to work is a pleasure – not a pain. U.S. News recently ranked all states based on the average time it took a commuter to get to work. The results prove that if you want an easy commute, you should consider moving out west. All 10 of the top 10 states with the shortest commute are located in the Midwest and Western regions of the United States. The reason? Less population density, affordable neighborhoods closer to cities, and less overall traffic on the roads could (partly) explain the shorter commute time.
Whatever the reason – one thing’s for sure: workers in these 10 states have more time to sleep, hang and sip their cup of joe in the morning. If you’re ready to be one of these geographically blessed people, consider moving to a state (below) with a shorter commute time.
