How to Create an Epic Home Bar
Do you have one too many guest rooms? Kids just moved out, and you want to make use of the space? Are you tired of not being able not to use that one room in your home? Why not create a home bar?
Need a private place to get away? Who doesn’t? Many of us are working and living in the same spaces now. We may need to escape without technically leaving the house. A home bar could be a place to socialize with friends, kick back, relax and enjoy some alone time.
Here are a few items you can use to transform an unused or used space in your home into a home bar.
Items to create your home bar
- Create a designated TV area – From watching sports to relaxing with a movie, you’ll need at least one extra-large screen. To turn your TV viewing up a notch, we recommend investing in a sound system.
- Build or buy a bar counter–What better way to kick back after a long day at work than to sip a libation at your own personal bar? Be sure to include special barware and accessories that you love and invest in comfortable bar seating to complete the space.
- Add recreational items –The more recreational options, the better. And what easier recreational activity is there besides throwing darts at a wall? We can’t think of one, which is why we recommend adding a dartboard to one of your walls. Fortunately, dartboards are inexpensive and easy to find. And, whether you’re looking for a solo match or one amongst friends, the game of pool is a fun way to take your mind off everything else in your life. It’s also a great statement piece – being both a decorative touch and a way to entertain friends and family when they come to visit. Other options that can serve as statement pieces or focal points for the room include a ping pong table and a foosball table
- Have the right video game equipment – If video games are your hobby of choice, make sure you have the right video gaming equipment in your home bar area. There are many different ways to step up your game, from a stellar video game collection and must-have accessories, such as controllers and headsets, to personal, at-home arcade machines.
- Create an area for lounging – We recommend investing in a comfortable sofa, sectional or lounge chairs. Please don’t buy anything online without experiencing it first. This means going to stores in-person to try out various seating options before purchasing them. When choosing furniture, be sure to focus on creating a comfortable spot and a conversation circle where friends can gather and socialize.
- Add a fridge and microwave – If you have the room and it makes sense for your space, adding a fridge and microwave will be very convenient. This will make it easy to grab a cold drink and heat a meal without ever having to leave your room.
- Themed Decor – If you please, center your home bar around a theme. Consider painting the room to match the theme you decide on and add art and decor items to make the look cohesive. If music is your pastime – whether it’s creating it, listening to it or both – then consider making this the theme of your bar. Fortunately, there are plenty of creative home bar ideas that incorporate musical instruments.
